Lingard, who could win his second England Under-21 cap against San Marino on Thursday night, is coming to the end of a one-month stint at Birmingham having scored five goals in four games – including four on his debut.
The 20-year-old is rated as one of the most exciting young prospects at United and made a big impression on manager David Moyes on the club's pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.

The new United boss was already feeling the pressure following a Premier League defeat at Anfield and realised that he could not risk putting out a severely-weakened team against his rivals.
He sanctioned Lingard's loan move so the youngster could have more first-team football and Birmingham manager Lee Clark has been delighted with his progress.

Clark is still hopeful that he can persuade Moyes to let him keep Lingard at the Championship club for longer.
'United want to review it and see how things are going,' he said. 'I'm hoping that David is seeing that he's enjoying his football and we're being good to him.'
Lingard, who had a spell on loan at Leicester last season, made his England Under-21 debut against Scotland in August and is in the squad for tonight's Euro 2015 qualifier in Serravalle.
