The 22-year-old has been plagued by injuries over the past few seasons, that have become particularly troublesome since his £12million move from Everton at the start of last season.
Rodwell has been restricted to just 16 appearances for City, and only one this term, against Stoke in the Barclays Premier League on September 14.
He was immediately ruled out after that by a hamstring problem.

'I'm fit and I am back training,' Rodwell told the Manchester Evening News.
Injury hit: Rodwell has been restricted to just 16 appearances for City since he arrived from Everton in 2012
Whether coach Manuel Pellegrini will be happy to stick Rodwell in for the trip to West Ham on October 19 is open to question.
Immediately after that City visit CSKA Moscow in the Champions League, whilst later in the month they take on Newcastle at St James’ Park in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.
Out to impress: Rodwell wants to convince new manager Manuel Pellegrini to give him a chance
